The Netherlands

The Netherlands, with its 16 million inhabitants is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. With 41,526km2 of land, it is a rather small country. In the west and north, it borders on the North Sea, in the east to Germany and in the south to Belgium.
The capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam, while the political capital is The Hague. The head of state is Queen Beatrix, which makes the Netherlands a constitutional monarchy. However, her role is primarily symbolic. The head of government is the Prime Minister.

The Netherlands has a mild, maritime climate. Summers are generally warm with changeable periods, but excessively hot weather is rare. Temperatures are on average about 21 degrees Celsius (but 30 degrees Celsius or higher is well possible too). Winters can be very cold with the possibility of some snow. In winter times, temperatures are on average about 6 degrees Celsius (but minus 6 degrees Celsius is possible as well). Rainfall is prevalent all year. Temperatures in Autumn and Spring vary between 5 to 15 degrees Celsius.

The official language in the Netherlands is Dutch. However, being such a small and multicultural country, many people speak English as well. For more information about the Netherlands you visit the website www.holland.com.
