Christiane Arndt

Position: PhD Fellow
E-mail: christiane.arndt@governance.unimaas.nl

Educational Background
Christiane Arndt holds a Master in International Business Studies from the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands) and a Master in International Politics from Sciences Po in Paris (France). She is currently in her final year of the PhD programme of the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance.

Research
Christiane Arndt has done extensive work on measuring governance in cooperation with the OECD. Her recently published study "Uses and Abuses of Governance Indicators" helps both users and producers of governance indicators to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the best and most widely used indicators and shows how governance indicators tend to be widely misused both in international comparisons and in tracking changes in the quality of governance in individual countries. It also explains recent developments in the supply of governance indicators, arguing that while there will never be one perfect governance indicator, the production and use of more transparent governance indicators will better serve the needs of users and developing countries alike. She has presented her work at both OECD meetings and international expert workshops. Her work has been incorporated into high-level World Bank and OECD conferences. Christiane Arndt currently undertakes research on measuring media capture at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
