Research Interest
My broad research interests include
analyzing the socio-economics of HIV/AIDS,
gender equality and poverty, and the
socio-economic effects of
information and communication
technologies in developing countries.
My current research project seeks to
determine the welfare effects of
social protection interventions
combining HIV/AIDS treatment with
cash or in kind transfers (e.g. cash
grants and food aid). The research
aims to determine whether these
combined interventions have larger
welfare effects than singular
interventions, as measured by the
health outcomes of the HIV/AIDS
patients, household consumption
levels and labour supply responses
of the HIV/AIDS patients and prime
age household members. Further
analysis may focus on whether there
are any positive externalities on
children living in households with
HIV/AIDS adult patients receiving
this type of social assistance.
Additionally, the research will
investigate whether adding cash or
in kind transfers to HIV/AIDS
treatment affects adherence to the
treatment regimen by patients.
