Research Interest
My principal area of interest
concerns the impact of
privatization investment in
macroeconomic fundamentals. The
prospective research will mainly
focus in developing countries,
which have launched large
infrastructure reform programs
with private participation.
Since its introduction
privatization is one of the most
important tools for corporate
governance; by the end of the
20th century, the total value of
the proceeds from government
divestments exceeded $1 trillion.
An important issue arising from
previous literature is how
developing countries can design
a privatization program that can
improve aggregate efficiency and
attract foreign direct
investments. Moreover,
privatization proceeds are
widely used to reduce government
debt, but at the same time,
their budgetary management,
significantly affects public
deficit. In this feature, it is
essential to assess the level of
the impact of private
participation in infrastructure
on these macroeconomic
indicators in a developing
countries’ dataset. I shall
introduce specific tools of
econometric analysis and
macroeconomic theory, to detect
possible linkages between the
explanatory variable –privatization
investment- and the depended
macro-variables. In today’s
global marketplace, where
private sector are indeed
willing to invest in
infrastructure, and at the same
time, governments seem eager to
divest, it is very important for
the policymakers to consider
relevant macroeconomic and
fiscal effects at the aggregate
level.
