Patricia Huitrón is an economist
with specialization in political
economy, health economics and social
protection financing. She has worked
as a consultant in topics related to
groups with special needs, like
children living and working in
streets, and she is experienced in
research on health and
impoverishment due to catastrophic
health expenditures. As a
consultant, she has coordinated
projects based on field research,
for which she has directed the
design and implementation of surveys
in Mexico.
In addition, Patricia has worked for
the Mexican Commission on
Macroeconomics and Health in the
project Financing the Mexican
Health System and in the project
Sector and Inter-sector Policy
Coordination Strategies to Improve
the Performance of the National
Health System,
where she specialized in
microeconometric analysis of health
data, as well as on the development
of behavioral models to understand
the way individuals react to health
policies.
Currently, she does research in
social protection policy, health
care access, and health care policy
design, as part of the European
Graduate Program in Social
Protection Policy, at the Maastricht
Graduate School of Governance.
Patricia has also worked as a link
between the Maastricht Graduate
School of Governance and the
Universidad Iberoamericana,
in Mexico, for the development of
several projects, including a
student exchange initiative and
joint provision of training courses.

Health economics, health financing
and health policy analysis;
Equity and access to social
protection systems, design and
financing of social protection
systems;
Pregnant women and economics of
child bearing and child rearing;
Women’s and children’s well-being,
social exclusion and
multidimensional poverty;
Households’ economics, households’
decision-making and women’s
empowerment.
