Preliminary Research Interests
My research interest is
welfare in the Middle East. The
“welfare state” is often associated
with advanced capitalist countries
and western democracies whose social
policy operates through state
intervention to compensate for the
inadequate welfare outcomes of the
labour market. Attempts have been
made to extend this concept of
welfare to other types of countries
such as East Asia and Latin America
and many sough to develop a new
conceptual frameworks for
understanding different types of
welfare regimes in a range of
countries in Asia, Latin America and
Africa. A missing area in the
literature however has been the
Middle East/North African nations
that take on the dual identity of
being Arab and Muslim Nations, and I
hope to address this in my research.
Ultimately my aspiration is to
participate in positive change
transformed into a vision of what I
want to do with my life, and that is
to be directly involved in the
policies and interventions which
respond to the economic, social and
political constraints and perils
that my country and the region face.
