Application
Application procedure
After the selection procedure by the Scientific Board, the Board of Admissions will inform all applicants about the decision. Admitted applicants will also receive official admission documentation by regular mail. The application decision is not open for discussion.
Applications cannot be held over until the following year. If you wish to re-apply, you must submit a new form next year.
Applicants who are registered for the complete PhD
programme cannot receive separate certificates or any other official confirmation for the courses they have taken as long as they did not yet attend the
entire
programme.
Documents needed
The following documents have to be included in your application
form online (please note our recommendations for sending options):
• certified copies of your certificates and grades (preferably scanned)
• proof of English proficiency (preferably
scanned);
• motivation letter (in word or pdf);
• two letters of recommendation (preferably
scanned, but originals have to be
sent as well);
• onepage research proposal (in word or pdf);
• curriculum vitae (in word or
pdf);
• copy of your passport (preferably
scanned);
• passport size picture (preferably
scanned)

2009:
First period: 2 to 13 March 2009
Second period: 1 to 12 June 2009
Third period: 2 to 20 November 2009 A more detailed programme

Admission requirements

A
master's degree from a relevant academic field such as economics, international relations, political science, law, social sciences, business administration, health sciences or public health. |

Basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics. This is measured by reviewing the content and grades of previous studies and/or the content and level of working experience. |

Basic knowledge of economics, social sciences, political science and/or law. This is measured by reviewing the content and grades of previous studies and/or the content and level of working experience. |

Proficiency in English. The minimum level accepted is 600 pbt/250 cbt/100 ibt (TOEFL) or 7.0 (IELTS). Native speakers of English and students who received their bachelor's or master's education in English are exempted. |
Code numbers for standardised tests
The Maastricht University code number for the TOEFL test is 7102. You do not need a code number for the IELTS test.
