PhD programme in Governance and Policy Analysis Dual Career (GPAC2)

Obtaining a PhD degree next to your fulltime job? The Dual Career PhD programme in Governance and Policy Analysis (GPAC²) offers participants courses, seminars and workshops that support their ambitions and intensify their research and analytical skills. The programme invites them to the stimulating and challenging research community of the School of Governance. The programme meets the needs and possibilities of researchers with a daily job and optimises the conditions allowing the participants to combine their careers with obtaining a PhD. The GPAC² programme is designed to provide advanced training in theory and skills that are crucial to policy analysis and design. The research fits into one of the seven research themes the school focuses on. The key lecturers of the programme are leading scholars in the field of policy analysis and the related areas like governance, risk management, sustainable development and social protection.

Objectives
The programme is designed to fit the needs and possibilities of researchers with a daily job and optimises the conditions allowing the participants to combine their careers with finishing a PhD. The key lecturers of the programme are leading scholars in the field of policy analysis and the supporting areas like governance, risk management, sustainable development and social protection.

Student profile
The participants in this programme, policy analysts, professionals and consultants from the public and private sector, are involved in a job that allows them to spend a minimum amount of time on research activities that eventually lead to a PhD degree. Ideally, the employer of the participant supports the researcher actively by allocating time and by facilitating research work (providing data, support, related assignments and the like). The School of Governance welcomes fellows from a variety of backgrounds. The programme is open to fellows with a master’s degree, strong academic records, professional experience or volunteer experience, affiliation with academic research and a special interest in policy analysis. The fellows come from both within the EU as well as from other continents and have a multidisciplinary background.  The research interest of the fellows varies extensively.
