Jan Vanheukelom, a Belgian national, started at ECDPM in June 2006 as Senior Programme Officer. He is currently Programme Coordinator of the Governance programme. Prior to joining ECDPM he worked on Security Sector Reform for the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Burundi. He worked as advisor for the Directorate General for Development Cooperation and as special advisor to the Belgian Secretary of State for Development Cooperation (1999-2003). Before he joined the public service, he had worked for a Belgian non-governmental development organisation (FOS). Mr. Vanheukelom holds a Master’s degree in linguistics and Germanic languages and completed the New Public Management Program at the Catholic University of Leuven.
